What is Nevolat used for?
Nevolat is a treatment used alongside healthy eating and lifestyle changes to help you lose weight. You inject Nevolat under the skin (subcutaneously) once a day using an injection pen.
The daily injection pen
We at Nevolat Health Care understand that maintaining a healthy weight is difficult to achieve.
Nevolat (liraglutide) is a daily injection designed to suppress appetite and help with weight loss. Created to aid patients with type 2 diabetes, liraglutite has been extended to help with weight loss too. Partnered with healthy eating and lifestyle changes, Nevolat can help patients loose up to 11% of starting weight in just one year.
How does Nevolat work?
The active ingredient in Nevolat is liraglutide which is similar to a naturally occurring hormone released from the intestine after a meal called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Nevolat works by acting on receptors in the brain that control appetite, causing a sensation of fullness and reduced hunger, which could contribute to a reduction in body weight.
Discover Nevolat – Your Guide to Weight Loss Injections
Nevolat is a once-daily injectable treatment containing the active ingredient liraglutide, developed to help adults with obesity or overweight conditions manage weight through appetite suppression and improved fullness.
Buy Nevolat Safely
You can buy Nevolat legally in the UK via regulated online pharmacies and via services like Asda Online Doctor, Boots Online Doctor, and private clinics. A prescription is necessary, and Nevolat is typically dispensed as prefilled pens.
What Are Nevolat Injections?
Nevolat injections are self-administered once daily under the skin (subcutaneous), using a pen format. Doses start low (0.6 mg) and gradually increase weekly until reaching a maintenance dose of 3.0 mg to help reduce side effects. Common injection sites include the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
About Nevolat
Nevolat is a weight-loss injection containing the active ingredient liraglutide. This mimics a natural hormone to reduce appetite and help regulate blood sugar. It’s approved for use in adults with a BMI of 30 or higher (obesity) or a BMI of 27 or higher with weight-related health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.
How Does Nevolat Work?
Nevolat contains liraglutide, which mimics the GLP-1 hormone naturally produced in your body. This hormone regulates appetite and blood sugar levels. By acting on brain receptors that control hunger, Nevolat helps you feel fuller for longer, and less hungry, reducing how much you eat. It also helps to balance your blood sugar levels, making it especially helpful for you if you have weight-related health conditions. Combined with diet and exercise, Nevolat aids in long-term weight management.
How To Take/Use Nevolat
As a once-a-day day injection, remembering to take Nevolat couldn’t be simpler as you can just slot it into your daily routine. We recommend that you take it at the same time every day for ease. But let’s take a look at how to use it.
Where To Inject Nevolat
Nevolat is a subcutaneous injection, which means that it’s injected under the skin, rather than into a vein. This type of injection is best administered into either your tummy (at least five cms from your belly button), your upper thigh or your upper arm. Make sure you rotate injection sites frequently to prevent one area being used much more than any other.
Preparing Your Nevolat Pen
You should first start by preparing your pen. This may seem a little complicated initially, but as this is a daily injection, you’ll soon become very familiar with the steps and administering your treatment will become second nature.
Let’s break down the preparation into some simple steps.
- Check your injection to make sure it’s definitely a Nevolat pen. This may sound silly, but it’s always important to check that you have the correct medication, especially if you take multiple injectables or are living with other people who take injectable treatments.
- Check that the solution in your pen is clear in colour. You can do this by looking through the pen window. If the injection appears cloudy, don’t use it and get in touch with our team.
- Remove the pen cap.
- Take a new needle and tear off the paper tab.
- Attach your needle to the pen by pushing the needle straight into the pen and turning it tightly.
- Nevolat needles have two caps. You should remove the outer cap, but make sure you keep itand not discard it. Thie is because you’ll need to use it to remove the needle from the pen at the end of the administering process.
- Pull off the inner needle cap and throw it away. You may see a drop of solution on the end of the needle. This is normal.
- Make sure that the needle isn’t bent or damaged. If it is, throw it away and start again.
Checking The Flow
If this is your first time using this particular Nevolat pen, you’ll need to complete a process known as checking the flow. This helps to make sure that there aren’t any blockages or issues with your pen that could prevent you from receiving the correct dose of Nevolat.
- Turn the dose selector until the window displays a symbol like this: —-
- Hold the pen with the needle pointed upwards. Press and hold the dose button until the counter returns to 0. This 0 should line up with the dose pointer. You should see a drop of solution at the needle tip.
- If no drop appears, repeat this process up to six times. If there is still no drop, change the needle and try again. If after changing the needle there is still no drop, you may need a new pen. Get in contact with our team.
You’re Ready To Inject
If you’ve completed the steps above and you’re ready to inject, here’s what to do next.
- Select your dose. You can do this by turning the dose selector on the end of the pen. Make sure you select the correct dose based on your treatment programme.
- Inject your dose into your chosen site. Be sure to hold the dose button down until the dose counter shows a 0. You should feel and/or hear a click when it’s ready for you to release it.
- Keep the needle in your skin, and slowly count to six. This helps to ensure that you’ve received the full dose of your medication.
- Remove the needle from your skin and press the outer cap back on to cover it, without touching it or the cap. Once this is in place, you can use it to unscrew the needle, which you can then dispose of.
Which Dose Of Nevolat Do I Take?
If you’re new to Nevolat, you’ll probably be recommended to start with a three-pen pack. This will last for one month and will help you to build up your dose of Nevolat slowly. This is important as you’ll need to monitor how your body responds to the treatment.
During your first month on Nevolat, you can expect your dosing to be broken down as follows:
| Week | Dose |
| One | 0.6mg |
| Two | 1.2mg |
| Three | 1.8mg |
| Four | 2.4mg |
| Five (starting month two on Nevolat) | 3mg |
Based on this, the three-pen pack will last for 34 days. After this point, you will be taking a daily 3mg dose. At this dose, one pen will last for six days. This means that you will need to buy five pens to have a full month (30 days) of Nevolat.
Ingredients
Nevolat’s active ingredient is liraglutide. Each millilitre (ml) contains 6 mg of liraglutide. Inactive ingredients include sodium citrate dihydrate, propylene glycol, phenol, and water for injection, with hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment. These keep the medicine stable and effective. Always check the leaflet for a complete list of ingredients if you have allergies or sensitivities.
Nevolat Side Effects
Common side effects of Nevolat include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, heartburn, headache, and a feeling of bloating. These symptoms are usually mild and tend to improve as your body adjusts to the medication. To reduce discomfort, stay hydrated and eat smaller, lighter meals. If side effects persist, worsen, or concern you, consult your doctor for advice.
Warnings
Don’t use Nevolat if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Discuss with your doctor if you have diabetes, thyroid problems, or a history of pancreatitis. Dehydration is a risk due to nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea, so drink plenty of fluids. It’s important to have regular medical consultations to monitor your progress and address any concerns during treatment. Always inform your healthcare provider of all medications or conditions before starting Nevolat.
Nevolat is a once a day injection you inject under the skin (subcutaneously). The best places to inject are the front of your tummy (ensure you inject more than 5 cm from your belly button), the front of your thighs or your upper arm. It’s important to rotate your injection sites frequently. You can inject in the same area (e.g. thighs) but choose a different spot in that area each time.
We recommend injecting yourself around the same time each day that suits your schedule.
The pens have been designed to make injecting yourself as easy as possible. Once you’ve been prescribed Nevolat, you’ll receive detailed instructions on how to use the pens from your healthcare provider.
When first taking Nevolat, you start at 0.6 mg for one week and then slowly increase the dosage every week. This allows your body to adapt to the treatment and to reduce any side effects you might experience. You must follow the dosage plan as advised by the healthcare provider who prescribed this treatment.
The starting dose is 0.6 mg once a day for one week. Each following week the dose is increased by 0.6 mg until you reach the maximum 3.0 mg dose. However, if you experience any side effects, the dose should not be increased until the side effects have settled.
The dosage over the first four weeks is as follows:
:
| Week | Dose injected |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | 0.6 mg once a day |
| Week 2 | 1.2 mg once a day |
| Week 3 | 1.8 mg once a day |
| Week 5 onwards | 3.0 mg once a day |
The dose should not increase above 3.0 mg per day. If in error you inject more Nevolat than expected please contact your GP.
Nevolat works best when used alongside healthy eating and lifestyle choices. When used correctly along with a change in diet and increase in exercise, most people can expect to lose around 11% of their starting body weight after 1 year of treatment, although individual results may vary.
To help get the most out of your treatment, we recommend following our free 10-week weight loss programme which can help you understand how to eat and the lifestyle choices that can maximise your success on the treatment.
As with any medicine, Nevolat can cause side effects. The most common of these are:
- nausea
- heartburn
- constipation
- headache
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
These side effects should ease within a few days or weeks as your body becomes used to the treatment. If the side effects don’t ease, please contact the healthcare provider who prescribed Nevolat for you. If you received your treatment through Boots Online Doctor, you can contact us via the online patient record. You can also drop down to the lower dose for a week to help your body adjust, after which you would increase your dose by 0.6 mg as per the schedule.
To ease side effects such as nausea, constipation or heartburn and help your body adjust to the treatment, it’s recommended that you try these tips:
- drink plenty of clear fluids such as water and herbal teas
- eat small amounts regularly
- drink or sip ginger, peppermint or fennel teas
- reduce sugar intake and high fat foods
- increase your fibre intake by adding some wheat bran, oats or linseed to your diet
- ensure you’re having regular walks
If you’re experiencing headaches with Nevolat, you can take paracetamol to manage the pain.
Please note, if your side effects don’t ease after reducing or staying on the same dose for an extra week then Nevolat may not be suited to you. Please keep the healthcare provider who prescribed Nevolat for you updated.
If your side effects are severe or you experience any of the following, you should stop using the treatment immediately and contact your GP, NHS 111 or attend A & E:
- severe and persistent pain in the abdomen (stomach area) which might reach through to your back
- severe nausea and vomiting
These could be a sign of an inflamed pancreas (pancreatitis) which is a serious, potentially life-threatening medical condition.
For a full and detailed list of possible side effects when taking Nevolat, please read the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with this treatment.
You should not use Nevolat during pregnancy or while breastfeeding as there’s not enough safety data available on the use of liraglutide in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Pregnant women who are already overweight or obese still need to gain a minimum amount of weight during pregnancy. This is due to the necessary weight gain caused by an increase in maternal tissues and from the baby’s growth during pregnancy.
You should also stop using Nevolat at least one month before you start trying to become pregnant.
There are some alternative treatments available, if you find that Nevolat is not for you. Some of these such as Wegovy and Mounjaro work in a similar way to Nevolat while others such as orlistat (Xenical) work by blocking the body’s absorption of fat from food.
All of these treatments should be used alongside diet and lifestyle changes in order to get the best results. For a more detailed description of alternative weight loss treatments that are available if suitable for you, click here:
